Drug uses

Zyrtec antihistamine is used to treat people, allergic to mold, pollen, animal dander, dust mites and other allergens. Zyrtec shows a reliable efficacy, so it can be assigned to children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. Zyrtec exerts antihistaminic action. This effect is achieved due to the inhibition of biogenic amine activity in the body. The drug is prescribed to people in:

• Skin rash (chronic idiopathic urticaria)
• Nose and eye allergy (allergic rhinitis)

Zyrtec tablets contain 5mg or 10mg of the active substance Cetirizine Hydrochloride (HCL). The tablets should be swallowed with a glass of water. Zyrtec administration hours may vary, depending on the individual needs of the patient.

The initial recommended dosage for adults is one Zyrtec 10mg tablet once a day. The daily dose for adolescents can be reduced to one Zyrtec tablet of 5mg.

The dosage for children of 6 months to 5 years is 2.5 mg - 5 mg of Zyrtec once a day. Dosage adjustment may also be necessary for people with various renal diseases.

Missed dose

Zyrtec tablets can be taken at any time of the day, but taking antihistamines at the same time will allow achieving the maximum therapeutic effect. If you forgot to take Zyrtec, the next dose should be taken as usually.

Exceeding the maximum recommended dosage does not increase the effectiveness of the anti-allergy treatment and may cause an overdose. Overdose symptoms include high blood pressure, headaches, frequent bowel movements, and tremor of the extremities.

Clinical trials and observations, made in the course of common medical practice, determined that Zyrtec may cause both insomnia and drowsiness. If these conditions cause discomfort, you can take Zyrtec tablets only in the morning or in the evening.

Storage

Zyrtec tablets should be kept at controlled room temperature, between 20°-25°C. Storing and transporting Zyrtec at temperature of 15°-30°C are only allowed for a short period of time.

Zyrtec side effects

Just as other anti-allergic drugs, Zyrtec may cause side effects. The most common undesirable effects of Zyrtec are headache, tiredness (fatigue), somnolence (feeling sleepy), and dry mouth.
